I have been relatively conservative with my tech purchases recently and have had my eye on a few things…
- 400 Disk Blu-Ray DVD Changer $633 (Waiting until below $300)
- 1 TB External Portable HD $113 (Auction, waiting until below $100)
- 256 GB USB Key (I would like 1 TB, but can settle for this one.) $879 from Newegg with FREE SHIPPING!!!! Glad shipping is Free, It would be too expensive otherwise ;P
- Internal 1 TB Laptop Hard Drive just to give my laptop a whopping big drive, though I doubt the BIOS can handle it. (Does not seem to exist yet, only as a portable external in item 2 above.)
I was joking about the USB Key. For that chunk of change I would get a fully loaded iPad!!! Something else I don’t really need. People have been asking me when I am going to get one, and I really don’t have an intent at this time. I have an iPhone, and I have a Macbook Air, which give me apps and portability. It also allows me to leave my reading glasses and tiny keyboard fingers at home. LOL
Many of you have heard that Starbucks has offered a 32 oz beverage size to compete with McDonalds. Termed the “trenta,” this size is being test marketed in California.
We in the Nation’s Capital are calling for a larger size for those long commutes into the city. We suggest the “secchio.” Italian for Bucket or Pail, this larger size should be able to keep us awake during our 10 mile commute which can take 2 or 3 hours during rush hour. The only problem? Drinking that much is going to make urinals a necessity on buses, and many passenger vehicles, or perhaps evenly spaced port-a-potties along freeways across the Metro DC area.
I could not help staring at what appeared to be a brown bare foot on the metro last night. In fact, I had to ask the gentleman wearing them “Are you from this planet?” All jokes aside, I was strangely intriqued by his footwar and looking at the rest of his clothing, seeing some elite, aka pricey, athletic ware, thought they must be for rock climbing or someting similar. After my converstation with him, it turns out these “Five Finger” shoes made by “Vibram” and a few other companies, were originally designed for water sports, canoeing he mentioned, as a replacement to the very popular and relatively ugly “water soc.” As the metro carried us downtown to the same metro station, we discussed more about these shoes. He mentioned there were sandals as well and the ones he had on are water proof. He said he has thrown out all of his shoes. When he said he was a personal trainer, it made sense. I don’t think I could wear them at work as they don’t really project a business casual look, unless I was a white water rafting instructor.
He mentioned that this type of shoe became famous when a well known runner, who’s name eludes me, not because it was forgettable, but because I don’t follow the sport professionally, wore them in a race. I asked about arch support, the most important job of a shoe besides protection in my mind. He said that if we were to “go barefoot” effectively, our muscles work more and are feet don’t become fatigued without the support. I don’t think cavemen had them, though they probably did not have podiatrists either to tell them their feet are in bad shape.
So….since I have ugly toes, I think I am going to pick up a pair of the summer variety to wear as sandals. Wear them around the apartment when doing laundry or taking out the trash and perhaps they can help keep my feet in shape and me walking longer in life.
So I was hoping to be closer this year when it came to my taxes, but again I underpaid thousands of dollars. I have decided that since Politicians can get away without paying taxes, I should be able to as well. Instead of evading them, I am going to write a letter to President Obama and ask him to be exempt from taxes as I am an aspiring politician and once I am appointed to a government office, I will then pay them with the large salary given.
